Government funds for works at SCPA

The South Carolina Ports Authority has been granted almost USD 22 million from the USA's department of transportation for the refurbishment of a current facility.

As part of its “Better utilising investment to leverage development (BUILD)” programme, the Trump administration has awarded USD 1 billion grants to repair, rebuild and revitalise transportation systems throughout the United States.

The SC Ports’ grant will be employed for both on-site and off-site improvements to the port-owned logistics park "Ridgeville Commerce Park".

These works are vital for the USD 220 million development of Walmart’s import distribution centre (1 million sqm) set to break ground in March 2021, as well as for future investors. On the site, the plan is to build an industrial access road and a large truck and empty container storage yard. (mw)
