Grimaldi launches Palermo–Cagliari link

The Naples-based Grimaldi Group has kicked off 2021 by expanding its services to and from Sicily. Its existing thrice-weekly Salerno–Cagliari connection between the Italian mainland and Sardinia will also call at the Sicilian port of Palermo on a weekly basis from 15 January. The new leg of the service linking Palermo and Cagliari has been designed to meet increasing demand for transport between Italy’s two major islands of Sicily and Sardinia.

The new weekly leg will also be served by the Italian-flagged ro-pax ferry ‘Venezia’, which offers 2,250 line metres, equal to 130 trucks, and can sail at a service speed of 23 knots. Departures from Cagliari are on Friday evenings and from Palermo on Saturday evenings.

The Grimaldi Group, wholly owned by the Grimaldi family, operates a fleet of around 130 vessels, owns/operates 22 port terminals in twelve countries and employs approximately 16,000 people. (cd)
