Groundbreaking on East Coast

Philaport, the port of Philadelphia, is investing some USD 42 million in a new 18,800 sqm near-dock logistics centre. It will be run by Holt Logistics and is intended for storing and distributing a large variety of food commodities.

The new warehouse is located around 1.5 km away from the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal, the region’s main container terminal. The groundbreaking ceremony was held at the beginning of March in the presence of Pennsylvania governor Thomas Wolf, mayor Jim Kenny, Jerry Sweeney, chairman of Philaport and Leo Holt, owner of Holt Logistics.

In 2020, the US East Coast Port moved 640,000 teu and achieved 7% growth in a difficult global economic environment. Over the past ten years, the port generated a compound annual growth of 10%. (sh)
