GS1 Schweiz demands standardized Euro pallet exchange pool

The International Union of Railways (UIC) has terminated its collaboration with Epal, the operator of the largest open pallet pool. In the wake of that move, the specialist association GS1 Schweiz is demanding that both UIC and EUR pallets, as well as those from Epal, can be swapped in an open exchange pool. After the UIC/Epal alliance ended, the railway association forbid its former partner from using the EUR logo to mark pallets. Moreover, the UIC said that Epal pallets without the EUR logo could no longer be swapped in the Euro pallet exchange pool. However, GS1 Schweiz and Epal recommend that the pallet exchange system be continued under the same conditions that used to apply. (ben)
