GW launches "zero emissions" programme

From 1 November 2021, Gebrüder Weiss customers can fully offset the CO2 emissions caused by the transport of their cargoes. With the new "zero emissions" service, the group calculates and documents the CO2 footprint for every shipment carried by road, rail, sea and air freight worldwide.

The emissions calculated using the web-based data Eco Trans IT are itemised on the freight invoice together with the relevant balancing costs. Compensation payments made by the customers are channelled into certified climate protection projects on various continents.

Gebrüder Weiss is also pursuing its own climate goals: by 2030, the logistics services provider is seeking to achieve climate neutrality at its logistics facilities by using electricity generated with photovoltaic systems. In addition, the company already deploys a number of low-emission trucks that are powered by liquid natural gas (LNG, CNG), electricity or hydrogen (fuel cells). (sh)
