Hamburg Süd holds first naming ceremony in USA
The German liner company Hamburg Süd recently held its first-ever vessel naming ceremony in the USA at the port of San Francisco. The containership "Cap Corrientes" was sponsored by Ofelia Gallo, wife of Joseph E. Gallo, president and CEO of the E&J Gallo Winery in California.
The 3,800-teu ship was built by Taizhou Catic Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Ltd in China for Vilmaris Management GmbH of Hamburg (Germany). Hamburg Süd has taken this vessel on a long-term charter and will deploy it on the trade between the Pacific Coast and Australia/New Zealand. The vessel is 228 m long, 37.3 m wide, has a draft of 12.5 m and is equipped with around 500 reefer plugs.
