Handling record at Abidjan's Terra terminal
The port of Abidjan’s ro-ro terminal Terra witnessed a weekly record between 22 and 29 August 2022, when it handled exactly 2,687 vehicles. The vehicles – mainly saloon and city cars or construction machines – were transported on the “Matorell” and “Pleiades Spirit” vehicle carriers from Thailand, China, Japan, South Africa, and India.
The fleet occupancy rate was high (95% and 70%, respectively) when the two vessels docked. The terminal more than doubled the rate of 50 units/hour set out in the concession agreement with the Autonomous Port of Abidjan.
After being awarded the "Green Terminal" label in June 2022 for reducing the environmental impact of its activities, the Abidjan Ro-Ro terminal is now continuing this approach by recovering and recycling waste, supporting environmental initiatives, and acquiring more energy-efficient equipment. (sh)
