Hermes deploys AMRs in Löhne
Hermes Fulfilment has introduced autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) at its Löhne logistics centre for the first time.
The 23 robots (two more are set to follow), made by Melkus Mechatronic, transport bulky goods on pallets across the 100,000 m² site. Equipped with laser scanners, the 'ants' navigate safely and relieve staff of manual transport tasks, according to Hermes Fulfilment.
The system aims to boost efficiency and helps address labour shortages. Around 1,000 transports per day are planned, with rollout to Ansbach next. Hermes is creating long-term prospects through automation as part of its commitment to future-ready logistics.
"By deploying AMRs we’re creating a modern, motivating working environment," said Hermes Fulfilment's operations manager in Löhne, Thomas Saltenbrock. (js)
