Hudson Bay Railway secures funding

The Arctic Gateway Group (AGG) will receive up to CAD 60 million (EUR 40.9 million) from the governments of Canada and its province Manitoba. These funds will allow to finish the upgrade work on the Hudson Bay Railway and to start redeveloping the port of Churchill, which are both operated by AGG.

The Hudson Bay Railway is the only affordable year-round, all-weather mode of transport to access several northern Manitoba communities. It is essential for supply chains, local food security and regional connectivity, the governments said.

With this rail line, the port of Churchill is the only deep-water port in the Arctic connected to North America’s surface transport network. (ben)
