India shores up its defences

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) recently certified the Caisson Gate and Intermediate Gate for the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier dry dock at Mumbai. The register thus supports the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliance) initiative in defence manufacturing.

The respective dock gates, weighing more than 1,700 t, are fitted out with features like electrically actuated valves and seals for zero water leakage. The other Intermediate gate for the aircraft dry dock is a lambda shape modular construction designed to fold “flat”. These gates can be installed at either of the three different locations of the dry dock to provide options for multiple docking. (sh)
