Innovative engines for cross-border railfreight

Metrans, a subsidiary of the Hamburger Hafen and Logistik, Hamburg’s port operator (HHLA), has received the first Vectron MS locomotive at the company’s container terminal in Prague (Czechia). The vehicle is part of a group of ten multi-system locomotives ordered from Siemens.

The locomotives are manufactured in the Siemens plant in München-Allach, Germany, and the entire batch will be delivered by spring 2020. Metrans intends to deploy the new Vectron locomotives in cross-border traffic in Central and Eastern Europe.

The new engines reach a maximum output of 6.4 MW and a top speed of 160 km/h. Moreover, they are equipped with the required national control systems as well as the European train control system ETCS. (ben)
