Intercepting stolen cars

In 2024, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the ports of Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia, have so far intercepted 18 stolen vehicles valued at approximately USD 1.1 million. Destined for countries like Ghana and the United Arab Emirates, the vehicles were recovered during outbound enforcement operations inspecting shipping containers.

This follows a year in which 59 vehicles valued at nearly USD 7.6 million were seized. These included luxury models such as a 2023 Bentley and a 2022 Mercedes, often acquired through fraudulent means from dealerships or rental car companies. Here, CBP's efforts disrupt the financing of transnational criminal networks and return valuable property to its rightful owners. (pb)
