IOM logistics hub in Thessaloniki

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has signed an agreement with the Greek government to establish a new supply chain centre in Thessaloniki.

The facility will support IOM’s growing global logistics activities, aiming to speed up humanitarian aid delivery and enhance sustainability. Thessaloniki’s strategic location and strong logistics links make it an ideal base for IOM operations.

The centre will focus on end-to-end supply chain management, integrating technologies such as automation and real-time tracking. It will also act as a platform for collaboration and innovation in crisis response.

IOM deputy director general SungAh Lee said that the project reflects IOM’s ambition to rethink humanitarian logistics and uphold the rights and dignity of migrants.

Procurement volumes at IOM have grown significantly, with 2,000 IOM staff now involved in global supply chain management. (gy)
