Israel issues two tenders for new ports

The Israeli government has published tenders for companies to build two private ports in Haifa and Ashdod respectively. The new ports are set to compete with the existing ones, which the government deems inefficient and too expensive. Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the Histadrut labour federation that efforts to upend reforms would not be tolerated. Israel's ports are a crucial gateway for the economy, as more than 60% of the country's GDP is represented by the flow of goods in and out of the ports. A study on general Israeli transport estimated that wages are overblown by 34% and the ports’ average monthly wages are the highest of any state-owned enterprises.
