JetZero selects Greensboro for Z4 manufacturing hub
JetZero, headquartered in Long Beach CA, has decided to produce its all-wing Z4 aircraft at a new facility in Greensboro NC, targeting entry into service in the early 2030s.
While originally conceived for passenger operations, the Z4’s wide-body layout and aerodynamic design promise a cargo revolution. With up to 50% better fuel efficiency than current twin-aisle aircraft and a range of 5,000 nautical miles, the Z4 is well suited for high-volume, long-haul airfreight. The design maximises internal volume and lift, enabling better payload economics.
The Greensboro plant, located at Piedmont Triad international airport, will be capable of building 20 aircraft per month and create 14,500 jobs. "We’re combining digital manufacturing and advanced materials to reshape air logistics," said JetZero CEO Tom O’Leary. Airlines including United have already placed conditional orders for the Z4, citing its emission-cutting performance and cargo potential. (ah)
