K Line's woodchip carrier to set sail in 2022

Nippon Paper Industries has entered into an agreement with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) on a consecutive voyage contract for a new 3.6 million CFT woodchip carrier to be delivered in 2022. The vessel will be in dedicated service to carry woodchips for paper materials and also biomass woodchips for the biomass power generation business which will come on stream in Tomakomai (Japan) in 2023.

Among other equipment, the ship will have a hybrid fin behind the propeller to save energy and a ballast water treatment system compliant with the international ballast water discharging rules.

Furthermore, in order to comply with the global sulphur cap that will be enforced worldwide from January 2020, the vessel will be equipped with a scrubber on the funnel to remove sulphur oxides from the gas discharged from the engine. (fd)
