Kick-off to triple rail capacity

A ground-breaking ceremony was held recently in Belle Fourche SD (USA) to launch a planned rail expansion project. The city in the north of South Dakota currently has a 27-car railyard. Once the expansion is complete, Belle Fourche’s railyard will be able to accommodate 90 wagons. Two additional tracks with four turn-outs will be added.

The project will triple the rail capacity at the industrial park and create the largest storage facility on the short line of the Rapid City Pierre & Eastern railroad (RCP&E), part of G&W. The RCP&E runs between Belle Fourche and Wyoming, Nebraska and Minnesota.

G&W is the largest holder of short line railroads in the US and the RCP&E, at 1,200 km, the longest rail line in the system. (ben)
