Knatz to leave port of Los Angeles
Geraldine Knatz, top executive of the port of Los Angeles since 2006, will retire at the end of the year. The mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, has appointed Gary Lee Moore, currently the city engineer, as general manager ad interim until a permanent replacement is found. Knatz had been installed by Garcetti's predecessor, mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Knatz's retirement news comes three days after port officials announced the resignation of retired US coast guard Captain John Holmes, who was the deputy executive director of operations for the harbour department. The port of Los Angeles, which handled 8.1 million teu in 2012, is the USA's most important port in terms of cargo.
