KWE: income up, sales down

The Japanese Kintetsu World Express (KWE) has reported its financial results from the six-month period of its fiscal year ending 30 September 2020. While revenues decreased by 2.9% to JPY 2.5 billion, operating income saw an uptick of 48.5% to JPY 13 billion (USD 124 million) from JPY 8.6 billion (USD 81.7 million) in 2019.

Under pandemic circumstances, the KWE Group’s freight operations saw air freight exports decline by 14.6% year-on-year to 233,000 t, and air freight imports decreased 14.4% to 527,000 shipments. Sea freight exports dropped 11.5% to 291,000 teu, and imports fell by 7.1% to 130,000 shipments. Logistics were stagnant overall due to a decrease in throughput in the APLL and overseas segments.
