Last newbuild and first organ donor

Probably not until a month from today, on 16 February 2023, the last of 1574 B747s ever produced will be handed over to the customer Atlas Air, which will use it for Kuehne + Nagel just like the last but one B747.

The historic date, which ends a 54-year production run, was originally scheduled for December last year, but was then pushed back to January. Meanwhile, the first B747-8 is being dismantled in Arizona.

In its ten years of existence, the aircraft, with the registration N458BJ, made only 20 flights. The widebody aircraft was to be seen in the neighbourhood of the ITJ for a long time, as it awaited its future destiny at Basel-Mulhouse Airport until 15 April last year. Now its fate is sealed, and the first parts of the organ donor have already been removed. (ah)
