Latam resumes flights to the Falkland Islands

Tomorrow, 2 July 2022, the South American airline Latam will resume its scheduled service from Punta Arenas (Chile) to Mount Pleasant in the Falkland Islands, which was suspended in March 2020. The once-weekly A320 has an underfloor cargo capacity of approximately 2 t and makes a stopover once a month in Rio Gallegos, Argentina.

Latam has been flying to the British Overseas Territory since 1999, following an agreement between Argentina and UK. 20 June marked the 40th anniversary of the end of the Falklands War between the two countries.

The British ministry of defence offers twice-weekly flights for civilian use from the Brize Norton (BZZ) base in Oxfordshire with a refuelling stop in Cape Verde to Mount Pleasant. (ah)
