Launch of the world’s first "humanitarian airline"
A new non-profit airline dedicated exclusively to humanitarian aid has taken off in Geneva. BlueLight Humanitarian Airlines, founded by aviation veterans Pierre Bernheim and Waleed Rawat, aims to provide neutral, cost-effective airlift for emergency relief, medical teams and supplies worldwide.
Its fleet will include Airbus A340-300 and A321P2F aircraft able to carry 50 t of cargo or 200 passengers, plus an air ambulance configuration for critical medical missions. BlueLight will also develop uncrewed drones capable of delivering 500 kg of aid across 800 km.
Endorsed by the Swiss government and Geneva Canton, the project plans to raise USD 55 m to launch operations in 2026. "When lives depend on speed and neutrality, the world cannot afford delays," said co-founder Bernheim. (ah)
