Leadership change for BVL advisory board

Engineering professor Thorsten Schmidt (on the right) has been appointed chair of the scientific advisory board of the German national logistics association (BVL), succeeding engineering professor Kai Furmans (centre).

Schmidt, who has held the chair for technical logistics at TU Dresden since 2008, is also president of Germany's Scientific Society for Technical Logistics (WGTL). He's been active in the board for many years, including on the editorial board for logistics research and as the host of ISSL 2023 in Dresden.

The handover took place during the advisory board’s meeting at the Transport Logistic trade fair in Munich last week.

BVL chair Kai Althoff (on the left) thanked Furmans for his leadership since 2017 and praised his efforts in bringing fresh academic insights to the BVL executive board. Schmidt emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in logistics and the BVL’s role as a platform for advancing joint standards and impulses. (ah)
