Linking Asian and European e-commerce

The Austrian logistician Gebrüder Weiss and the Chinese forwarder Global Freight System have set up a Shanghai-based joint venture called Gebrüder Weiss Express China, in which GW holds 65%. It specialises in transporting parcels between China and Europe.

GW board member Lothar Thoma said that “the trend to e-commerce means the volume of parcels is also rising, so we’ve pooled our expertise to address both Asian and European firms.” The move represents another way for GW to boost its existing activities on the new Silk Road by this parcel transport dimension, he added.

GW has branches in 19 hubs in the greater China region, and runs offices in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Georgia and Armenia. (cd)
