Linking e-trucks with costal shipping

Pacifica Shipping is now deploying two XCMG E700 electric trucks to move full containers for the first and last mile at the ports of Auckland and Christchurch, New Zealand. With the project, the affiliate of Swire Shipping links zero emission battery-swapping, fully electric trucks with coastal shipping, aiming to lower emissions for ocean freight arriving at the ports.

The initiative is expected to achieve a significant reduction in the carbon footprint by eliminating 5,100 conventional combustion engine truck movements and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by up to 250 t annually. The project is co-funded by the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (EECA). (ben)
