Liquid gas replaces diesel for port vehicles

Effective immediately, commercial vehicles of the port of Duisburg (Germany) can fill up with liquefied natural gas (LNG). The port and the energy trading company RWE Supply & Trading have together inaugurated the first LNG refuelling station in the port.

The mobile refuelling station is the first step towards an LNG infrastructure which is to establish liquid natural gas as an eco-friendly fuel in the port of Duisburg. In an initial phase, reach stackers and tractor units used within the terminal were converted to LNG fuel.

The management of the port of Duisburg says that, in a second phase, the use of LNG in the port will be extended to other vehicles as well. (ben)
