Logistics marathon continues


42 days after the first doses of Covax, the global mechanism for equitable access to Covid-19 vaccines, were shipped and delivered internationally, to Ghana, more than 38 million doses of vaccines from AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech and Serum Institute of India have now been delivered, mostly as air freight, to over 100 economies, 61 eligible through the Gavi Covax advance market commitment.

 

Henrietta Fore, Unicef executive director: "In just a month and a half, the ambition of granting countries access to Covid vaccines is becoming a reality, thanks to the outstanding work of our partners in the Covax Facility. However, this is no time to celebrate; it is time to accelerate."

 

According to its latest supply forecast, Covax expects to deliver at least 2 billion doses of vaccines in 2021. (ah)
