Lübeck's port opens up new horizons

The Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft (LHG) recently took delivery of the new municipal port areas at the Skandinavienkai in Travemünde. The hubs are now officially in operation. In a first construction phase, a 100,000 sqm terminal area was built.

Among other facilities, it contains a logistics warehouse spanning 25,000 sqm. An additional 60,000 sqm will follow in a second construction phase. Among the guests at the opening ceremony, Lübeck’s mayor Jan Lindenau also welcomed representatives of the Finish-Swedish group Stora Enso, the first big customer to use the new hall.

Over a period of 18 months and by order of the Lübeck Port Authority (LPA), building companies had removed million cbm of earth, laid some 120,000 t of gravel and paving and set up the logistics hall. All infrastructure measures will be implemented by the end of 2021. Furthermore, a new gate facility, the paper gate, will be built in order to separate ro-ro and ferry traffic from deliveries to the logistics warehouse.

Overall, around EUR 46 million will be invested to expand the port's infrastructure. (mw) www.lhg.com
