Luka Koper reaches threshold of 1 million teu

In 2021, the container terminal of the Slovenian Port of Koper handled 996,000 teu, beating its previous record of 988,500 teu, achieved in 2018.

"This is an important milestone, especially given the impact of the pandemic on global logistics flows," said Boštjan Napast, president of the management board of the Port of Koper. He also underlined that further growth of container throughput in Koper will also largely depend on the project to extend Pier I.

The operational shore of the container terminal, which was extended by almost 100 m, was handed over for use in June 2021. Storage areas in the hinterland of the coast are in preparation, as well as an additional railway connection with the hinterland. The second track will be operational in 2026, and the state is also updating other parts of Slovenia’s railway network. (sh)
