Maersk Air brings in leadership duo

A.P. Moller-Maersk has strengthened its airfreight unit's leadership with two senior appointments.

Christoph Hemmann becomes head of global air and LCL and joins the global leadership team in logistics and services, reporting to chief product officer Narin Phol. He takes over from Murali Rajamani and will also oversee Maersk Air Cargo, with its 18 Boeing B767 freighters and two new B777Fs. Hemmann brings more than 15 years of industry expertise from DHL Global Forwarding and DB Schenker with him, where he managed teams in Europe, the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region.

John McDonald (pictured) has been named head of Maersk Air Freight Forwarding, succeeding John Wetherell. With over 35 years in logistics, McDonald previously served as EVP and head of airfreight for the Americas at DB Schenker, and earlier held leadership roles at STG Logistics, UTi Worldwide and Ceva.

In 2024 Maersk managed 327,000 t of air cargo, up by 11% year-on-year, ranking fifteenth among global forwarders. (ah)
