Make containers secure again - now in Morocco
The USA and Morocco have signed a new 'Container Security Initiative' (CSI) arrangement to strengthen cargo inspection and customs cooperation.
The agreement, signed in Rabat by CBP’s Donald Conroy and Morocco’s customs chief Abdellatif Amrani, enhances security protocols at Casablanca and Tanger Med (pictured) – two key ports for trans-Atlantic trade. CSI enables early targeting of high-risk containers through intelligence sharing and joint inspection efforts.
"We reaffirm our commitment to harmonising security with the seamless flow of trade," said Amrani. The CSI programme, launched in 2002, now extends to over 60 ports globally. US chargé d’affaires Aimee Cutrona hailed the move as "a milestone in protecting global supply chains and promoting economic prosperity." (ah)
