Maritime consultancy confirms Greek stronghold

The Berlin-based consultancy Flagship Founders has released its 2025 'Global Maritime Tech Startup Map', featuring 176 startups, up from 149 the year before.

AI integration is accelerating, Flagship said. 45% of all featured startups now use AI, up from 28% in 2024. The 'Condition and Maintenance' category leads with 72% AI integration, while other fields, including procurement and crewing, lag behind.

Greece recorded the strongest growth of new entries, and now ranks third worldwide, alongside Cyprus. In total, disclosed funding reached USD 234 million, with Orca AI alone raising USD 72.5 million. The UK dominates finance-related startups, while EU countries lead in green tech.

According to Flagship Founders’ managing director Fabian Feldhaus, maritime tech is evolving rapidly. Widespread AI adoption could allow the sector to leapfrog digitalisation challenges that slowed progress in other industries. (ah)
