Medicargo: developing drone logistics
ADAC Luftrettung and the German Red Cross blood donor service of Baden-Württemberg - Hesse will be working in close cooperation to develop drone logistics for transporting blood, medicines and tissue in future.
More than 100 drone flights have been performed between the DRK blood bank and the surgery department of the University Hospital in Ulm over the past two years. The result: drones can be used to ship blood to patients in Ulm five times faster than the usual means of transport.
The results are so promising that the research project is to go into regular commercial operation for clinics throughout Germany. The development of the transport drone, called Medicargo, is supported by the Brandenburg-based company Multirotor. (cj)
