Medway starts LNG transport

Lisbon-based freight operator Medway invested in 14 specific tank containers for the transport of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the Portuguese energy provider GALP. The purchase follows an agreement between the two companies which was signed earlier in November.

The contract includes the annual transport of 800 containers from Sines (Portugal) to the various gasified storage snits (UAG's), which are located mostly in north region of the Iberian river Douro. The first transport of GALP materials by Medway already took place recently.

Medway’s intermodal rail-road transport solution for GALP's LNG tanks allows a reduction of about 70% in CO2 eq emissions, which represent 520 t of CO2 eq annually compared to the same transport by road only. (ben)
