Metrans builds terminal in Hungary
Metrans has officially started construction of a new intermodal logistics centre in Szeged (Hungary) with a ceremonial groundbreaking. The facility will become the second Hungarian hinterland terminal operated by the HHLA rail subsidiary and is scheduled to enter service in 2027.
The Szeged terminal will complement the Metrans terminal in Budapest, which has been in operation since 2017. Located in southern Hungary, the new site is positioned as a logistics hub on the Central Europe–Balkan corridor as the company reported. The terminal will be developed on an area of around ten hectares and will include four 330-metre-long tracks and two remotely controlled electric gantry cranes. The facility is designed to handle up to six train pairs per day and an annual capacity of around 300,000 teu according to the company.
