Michelin banks on wind transport

Michelin recently signed a transport commitment with Neoline as a test initiative to help decarbonise the group's logistics operations.

The commitment concerns the trans-Atlantic trade on cargo ships with tyres loaded in containers from Halifax (Canada) to Saint-Nazaire - Montoir de Bretagne in France, on a pilot line to be launched by Neoline in 2023. It will also serve the archipelago of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, as well as Baltimore (USA).

Neoline's decarbonised shipping service relies on wind energy as the main propulsion for its 136 m cargo ships with 4,200 sqm of sails. This solution can reduce by 90% carbon emissions related to trans-Atlantic maritime freight transport.

With the arrival of a second vessel in 2024, the Michelin group will gradually entrust Neoline with at least 50% of the group's containers transported on this route. (cd)
