Montreal pushed projects in 2021

The Canadian Port of Montreal recorded a throughput of 1.7 million teu in 2021, up 7.5 from 2020. In tonnage, however, the port saw a decline of 3%, handling a total of 34 million t of goods last year.

Financial results remained stable, with operating income moving sidewards to USD 117.7 million in 2021 (USD 116.6 million in 2020). The port's net profit was at USD 19.7 million.

2021 also saw big investments of USD 104 million, leading to the completion of the first phase of the Contrecoeur terminal project and the start of the last phase of the rehabilitation project of the Alexandra Pier, which began in 2014. In decarbonisation, the port launched a number of projects resulting in a reduction of 33% of its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to the level of 2007. (sh)
