More berths for the port of Corpus Christi

The Texan Port of Corpus Christi has been awarded a USD 17 million federal grant for the first phase of the Avery Point Terminal redevelopment. Thus the expansion of Oil Dock 3 (OD3) as the first of four phases in this project is on track.

Located on the Corpus Christi ship channel’s inner harbour, Avery Point is one of the port’s public oil terminals, currently operating at over 84% capacity. The four ship docks are however more than 55 years old and require major rehabilitation and the creation of new berth capacity nearby to accommodate existing (and growing) demand during the reconstruction phase.

The federal grant will double barge berthing capacity at OD3, located on the easternmost edge of the terminal, to accommodate 90% of barge traffic currently calling at the other three Avery Point docks (docks 4, 7 and 11). (mw)
