More cyber security at the port of Ashdod

The Mediterranean port of Ashdod will start pilot trials of the Port-Dome cyber protection software on several systems in early 2020, after which the technology will be installed across the port’s entire network. This will include traffic control systems (VTMS/VTS), berths, bridges, locks and gates, terminal cranes and storage facilities, and all access points and gateways.

The port of Ashdod’s OT systems will continue to operate in the same manner as prior to the installation. The only difference will be that hackers will not be able to gain access. The provider of the software, Naval Dome, will begin the retrofit security installation in Q1/2020, followed by the integration of Port-Dome into new systems and equipment.

Orna Hozman Bechor, Ashdod port's chairwoman added: “Since the security of the world’s ports and terminals is vital to guaranteeing the delivery of energy, commodities and consumer goods to the markets, we have partnered with Naval Dome to prevent cyber-attacks from affecting the port’s or our customers’ operations."

About 40 km from Tel Aviv, the port of Ashdod is one of Israel's two main cargo ports and has an annual container throughput of approx. 1.5 million teu. (mw)
