More road freight congestion ahead?

The European full and part load network Elvis and the German association of small and medium-sized enterprises BVMW have warned of new problems for supply chains.

Bottlenecks in the German rail network are threatening to increase congestion in road freight traffic if more transports are shifted off the railways due to a lack of railfreight capacity, the associations explained. Road logistics operators already have to deal with a variety of challenges such as the ongoing driver shortage and stiff competition for freight capacities.

BGL and BVMW warn that the situation could become critical if the current confusion in the German rail transport sector continues to fuel demand for road haulage capacities. (ben)
