MSC unites Haropa and Africa with new service

The Switzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has launched its first ro-ro service from Le Havre (Haropa/France) to West Africa.

The new twice-per-month sailing will connect the ports of Antwerp (Belgium), Dakar (Senegal), Conakry (Guinea) and Abidjan (Republic of Côte d’Ivoire), and via Le Havre also interlink the reception of ro-ro shipping lines to the ports of Rouen and Paris (both France).

The ro-ro vessel "MSC Immacolata", with a unit capacity of 6,700 cars, inaugurated the new loop, which is not restricted to rolling cargo, but also includes project and breakbulk.

MSC, which has been serving African markets since 1971, also deploys the "MSC Cristiana" on the trade. Both ships can carry around 60,000 t of cargo.

The Haropa ports noted good figures in their ro-ro sector in 2017. Vehicle numbers rose by 18% y-on-y to 370,000 units.  (kd)
