Muuga and Kaunas in the Baltics now connected

Amber Train completed its first test run recently, creating a rail corridor for the transport of semitrailers between Northern and Western Europe through the Baltic States.

The train connects Muuga station in Estonia with Kaunas terminal in Lithuania, where semi-trailers will be loaded onto flat wagons with European rail gauge so that the journey can continue towards Western Europe.

The Amber Train wagons however will be loaded with new goods, which the train takes back to Muuga port, where the trailers are loaded onto a ship to Finland. Scheduled rides on the Muuga-Kaunas-Muuga route will be offered twice a week. The Amber Train is led by Operail in cooperation with LDZ Cargo, LTG Cargo and the terminals HHLA Estonia and Kaunas Intermodal Terminal. (ben)
