Nabtesco and DeepSea achieve fuel savings
Japanese shipowner Eastern Car Liner (ECL) has reported a 3.4% reduction in fuel consumption following the deployment of Nabtesco’s Telegraph Agent™ and DeepSea Technologies’ AI tool "Cassandra" on the car carrier "Malaysia Grace".
The automated system controls engine output to maintain consistent speed, while Cassandra’s AI analyses operational data in real time to optimise fuel use across routes in Asia, the Middle East and Oceania.
After a 10-day trial alternating the system on and off, the results prompted ECL to commit to fleet-wide adoption. Nabtesco CEO Kazumasa Kimura sees the tool as a first step toward AI-powered engine control to reduce emissions and crew workload. (ah)
