New Boeing, damaged Antonov

The South American airline Aer Caribe, which operates a total of ten freighters from two bases in Columbia and one in Peru, took over its fourth B737-400F at the beginning of this month. With the new aircraft, the company intends to expand its network in Latin America and the Caribbean.

However, last Wednesday, 14 October 2020, an AN-32 of Aer Caribe Peru, a subsidiary which was recently granted a foreign air carrier permit by the US DOT to engage in charter foreign air transportation of property and mail between the USA and any point or points, suffered a total loss during a 1,760 m runway excursion after landing at Iquitos airport.

According to the Aviation Safety Network, both wings broke off in the accident sequence and the fuselage broke in two just ahead of the wing. (ah)
