New container train between Lithuania and Kazakhstan

A new container train service between Lithuania and Kazakhstan is starting on 26 September. SC Lithuanian Railways’ freight traffic director, Stasis Gudvalis, announced the information at the V. Baltic Forum in Kaliningrad in the first week in September. The new service should haul car components for the new PSA Peugeot Citroen assembly plant in Kostanay (Kazakhstan). Gudvalis underscored that the new box train service complements his company’s existing offers to the east. These include the container train connections between Vilnius and Almaty that are operated in collaboration with the logistics firm Hoptrans Projects, or the services between Sweden, Lithuania and Russia (Karlsham-Kaliningrad-Klaipeda-Kaluga) in cooperation with Volvo. The freight director added that Lithuanian Railways continually checks new projects. (ku)
