New cross-border rail service in the USA
CPKC and CSX have launched the Southeast Mexico Express (SMX), a new routing option connecting Mexico, Texas and the U.S. Southeast. Operational since December 2024, the SMX offers faster transit times, added capacity and a lower-emission transport option as the company reported.
CPKC CEO Keith Creel and CSX CEO Joe Hinrichs stated: "Together, we are providing shippers with a competitive, sustainable alternative for freight transportation." Schneider National, among the first users, reports increased reliability and efficiency. "Our collaboration with CPKC and CSX on the Southeast Mexico Express represents a meaningful improvement in cross-border logistics for our customers," said Schneider President and CEO Mark Rourke. The service replaces up to 300 trucks per train. (js)
