New parcel centres Down Under

An enlarged parcel hub in Perth, this is Australia Post's next goal. At 23,000 sqm, the new purpose-built facility will be equipped with adequate automated sortation and the capacity to process 14,000 parcels per hour on its first day of operation, allowing for an acceleration to up to 23,000 parcels per hour in the future.

Australia Post expects the facility to be up and running in time for Christmas 2022. It will be located in Welshpool near the existing Perth parcel centre site and Welshpool business hub and will include an onsite parcel distribution centre.

Australia Post's acting group chief executive officer and managing director Rodney Boys mentioned an investment of AUD 82 million (USD 60 million). Another new facility is planned in Butler in October 2022 to replace the current delivery centre in Clarkson. (sh)
