New Silk Road comes to Valenciennes

For the first time, Contargo unloaded containers at the terminal in Valenciennes (France, region Hauts-de-France) that had arrived in Duisburg (Germany) two days previously by rail from China.

The containers were then transported to France on a barge operated by Contargo. The whole journey of the forty 40-foot containers via this route from China to France took less than 20 days. This new service enables various terminals in Duisburg to consolidate containers from China that are destined for the French market.

With a yearly throughput of over 2 million teu, Contargo integrates container transport between the western seaports, Germany’s North Sea ports and the European hinterland by combining inland waterway, rail and road. (ben)
