                        New Swiss freight rules
From 1 May new rules will apply to the licencing of road transport companies in Switzerland. The government has revised the existing ordinance to bring it in line with recent legislative changes aimed at tightening regulations for freight transport using vehicles over 2.5 t in cross-border operations.
Key amendments include stricter proof of company headquarters, to prevent shell companies from operating. The thresholds for financial proof have also been adjusted, and the requirements for heavy vehicles lowered, as companies using vehicles up to 3.5 t for domestic transport remain exempt from licencing. These measures are intended to promote fair competition and professionalise the sector. (js)
