New Teesport rail service to deliver furniture
UK-based PD Ports and GB Railfreight have launched a dedicated railfreight service between Teesport and Doncaster for the multimodal operator Containerships and its end customer Ikea Transport & Logistics.
The twice-daily rail service shifts 120 vehicle movements per day from the heavily congested UK road network. Each vehicle travels 145 km each way.
The introduction of the new train was cemented during a four-week trial period this spring. The service transports 56 boxes per day in two trips. The outward journey is from Doncaster to Darlington and Teesport; the return leg goes from Teesport to Yarm and Doncaster. (ben)
